We Care for the Environment

At Lower Damgate Farm, we endeavour to develop and manage the impact of our business on the environment in a sustainable way as possible. We are committed to:

Good environmental practice in business activities, minimising harmful effects and maximising the beneficial influences on the environment.

Complying with environmental laws and fulfilling duty of care requirements for waste disposal.

We welcome support, participation and suggestions from our customers as to how to continue to improve our environmental policy and protect the environment.

The following are some of the measures we are implementing:

Use of traditional methods in managing dry stone walls as field boundaries and new native tree and hedge planting.

Managing farm to DEFRA Stewardship Scheme.

Safeguarding archaeological and historic features, including traditional buildings.

Provision of visitor information packs on local walks, public transport, wild life parks, fauna and flora indigenous to our site, countryside events information.

Secure dry storage for bicycles.

Use of traditional building products and methods in the conservation and renovation of the farm buildings on site.

Minimising waste by recycling glass, paper, plastic, cardboard, aluminium, iron and garden waste.

Monitoring of energy, waste and water consumption and making energy savings through insulation, use of energy efficient appliances/lighting, provision of a shower for cottage.

All lighting is by low energy, long-life bulbs.

We are replacing white goods with more energy-efficient models.

'Foul' water from the cottages drains to a septic tank so consideration of what is flushed down the toilet or poured down the sink is a must. Bleach and certain cleaning agents are harmful to the bacteria that break down waste that is in the septic tank. Oils and fats may cause blockages in the pipe work dispose of such material in a plastic container or jar.

Provision of local menus from nearby pubs.

Using local labour and suppliers and environmentally friendly and traditional products.
