  Hope's Hideaway Description

4 Star Luxury Self Catering Holiday Cottage
Hope's Hideaway
is situated about 75 yards from the main 16th century farm house and gardens. Beyond the farmhouse and only about 300 yards away, you can see the hills of Hall Dale (owned by the National Trust) which lead down to the River Dove and Dovedale.

Hope's Hideaway, like Bremen's Barn is basically upside down.  The living area, kitchen and dining areas are upstairs, along with bedroom 4.  The remaining three bedrooms and two bathrooms are on the ground floor comfortably accommodating 8 people and a cot.

The Entrance Hall opens into a hall with a flagstone floor.  There is an antique tiled washstand and coat stand.  To your left is the bathroom.

The Shower Room door has a beautiful stained glass panel at the top.  The shower, a Mira, is fed off the main system and provides a generous flow of water!  It also features a very unusual mirror, which, like the other units, has to be seen to be believed!

The Bathroom is warm with quality sanitary ware and a beamed ceiling. Straight ahead of you is the shower room.

The Living area comprises the Kitchen, Dining area and sitting room.

The Kitchen is handmade by a local craftsman in re-claimed pine.  Directly over the sink, is a lit alcove which is formed from part of the roof from the adjacent barn.  There is a cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge (all in matching dark green) in addition to a Bosch dishwasher.

The Dining Area has a huge old pitch pine table, which seats 8 people with room to spare. There is a large gable end window in the kitchen/dining room area which looks over the farmhouse and gardens.

The Sitting Room has an old pine church pew, two double sofas and a pair of fireside chairs.  We have installed a cast iron log burning stove which stands near the TV and video cabinet.

Bedroom 1 is a double bedroom.  It has huge oak perlins in the roof and a Velux window overlooking beautiful countryside. The floor has exposed and polished floorboards and a rug. The double bed is of good quality and has a simple, but attractive canopy.

Bedroom 2 is a large double bedroom with a good quality double bed.  It is a particularly pretty room, with two of the walls having the original stonework exposed.  In the wall behind the bed is a stone alcove. The room also has antique pine drawers, bedside cabinets and an old pine wardrobe.

Bedrooms 3 and bedroom 4 are twin rooms, both having antique wardrobes and chests of drawers. The ceilings in both rooms are heavily beamed.

The stairs, which double back on themselves lead off to a large landing with a door on the left and the right.  At the back of the landing is the largest old pine chest you may ever have seen, complete with the original ironmongery.  You'll need to be strong if you want to lift the lid! The door on the right, leads into bedroom 4.

The door on the left at the top of the stairs is set in the centre of a huge roof truss.  When you open this, you walk into a spacious and open area, split by two trusses, which again, can be walked through.  They provide the divisions for the kitchen, living room and dining room.

Please take the time to familiarise yourself with the cottage and the farm through our interactive map.
