Here at Lower Damgate Cottages you only need to walk out of the front door to experience” some of the finest walks around”.  The National Trust Park of Ilam and both the Dovedale and Manifold rivers are only a short walk away. Isaac Walton fished in these rivers in days gone by. The local scenery is spectacular and many books have been published about the area.

There are many local towns and places of Interest. The stately homes of Chatsworth House, Hardwick and Haddon Halls are within half an hours drive away. The National Trust properties nearby include Ilam, Sudbury and Kedleston Halls as well as Calke Abbey and Biddulph Grange. You will also find locally Tissington Hall which always provides a warm welcome.

If you are interested in ghosts there are many local legends and Derby is the most haunted city in Britain. Ghost Walks are regularly planned in the city of Derby.

Alton Towers is one of the UKs leading theme parks and is only 15 minutes away. One for the children and more adventurous adults. You will find Splash landing Water Park at the same site, ideal for rainy days!

The Peak District is famous for its caverns and you won’t be disappointed with them. They include Pooles Cavern in Buxton, Speedwell and The Blue John Mines.

 
 

Dovedale from Blore

The Potteries are home to Wedgwood, Spode and Royal Doulton among other famous names. They all have factory shops.

Railway enthusiasts can enjoy Churnet Valley railway and Darley Dale Railway where Thomas the Tank engine regularly visits. Crich Tramway Museum is a favourite for many.

Matlock and Matlock bath provides many attractions including Gulliver’s Kingdom, the Heights of Abraham and outlet factory shopping.

 
 

Carsington Water and Tittersworth Reservoir provide sailing, canoeing, bird watching and other water sports. These are both 20 minutes drive away. Derwent water and Ladybower reservoir can be found north of Buxton.

Markets and Towns. Bakewell, Ashbourne and Leek provide unique shopping with cobbled streets, antique and usual shops. They all have markets and you couldn’t go to Bakewell without having one of there famous tarts! Buxton is famous for its waters and spa. It has an excellent theatre and its best to book!

 
 

Ther're plenty of outdoor activities and leisure activities to be found locally, such as horse riding and mountain biking. You can hire bikes on the Tissington and High peak trails and Waterhouses provide bikes at the start of the manifold way. There are a couple of local riding stables and we would be happy to point you in the right direction if you want to do any of these activities.

Rock climbing and abseiling. You can find rock climbing at a number of sources in the peak park. Longnor and Wirksworth have their own Climbing Walls.

Well Dressings. Located in many of the local villages throughout the year. The workmanship involved is amazing and often worth a visit.
