Local PubsPlease see Helpful information as well.
The Watts Russell - Stanshope 0.9 Miles

Slightly less than 1 mile, between Stanshope and Alstonefield - Turn Right out of the Farm Drive, or walk to Hall dale and down into Hopedale where the pub lies.

Bruce and Christine are very welcoming and will happily cater for large groups, book if you can but you can also turn up (if they are open!) The pub is a little quirky and rustic! It is a free house and beer is sourced locally. Bruce cooks all his food from scratch and if you are fussy with your food then he will accommodate you as much as he can. Though he is not a pie and chips person! The pub sometimes closes early or is not open! If you ring in advance then he will definitely open for you and they are quite happy for you to “take over” the pub.

The George - Alstonefield 1.7 Miles

Pre booking is a must at the George. If your group is large then you would have to book the upper floor of the Coach House, to the rear of The George, this is an intimate space for up to forty guests and there is an additional charge.
The pub is quite small and is not good for children though it does get booked very quickly and the food is excellent. It is more of a gastro pub and Emily would rather you ate there than drank! Beer is from Marston’s Brewery. There are many good walks to Alstonefield from here; one of the easiest routes is to walk to Milldale via footpaths from the farm, then up the old road past Polly’s “hole in the wall” tea room at Milldale to Alstonefield. The pub is in the center of the village.

The Royal Oak - Wetton 2 Miles

The Royal Oak is a lovely country village pub, popular with the locals and very welcoming, its easy to walk to and about 1.5 miles on foot. (2 miles by road).  They can pre order large meals for you or even act as a take away!

A Free house with good beer as well as being a family pub (so you can bring the children). They have a children’s menu and serve chips! (Why children will only eat chips I don’t know!) Of course if you’d rather they ate carrots broccoli and pureed peas! Then try the Watts Russell! (I love peas)
Ian is happy for you all turn up whatever the number, for good meals and a Fabulous Sunday lunch. If there are a lot of you please just ring to say you’re coming as it gets quite busy(in fact it best to ring and book) . Ian is happy to reserve a table and the pub has a great conservatory area for large groups. If you ring Ian may email you a menu and ask for your order early so that food is ready for when you arrive.
It’s a great walk with a pint at the end …To get there via walking,  Just go over the road, follow the track, keeping the neighbours farm on your left and through the gates (past our “well” which feed the stream past the house) you will then pick up the footpath. Keep the wall on your right going straight up the hill until you come to a copse of trees and then you will pick up the old road (not used) that will take you straight into Wetton. If you turn left at the copse of trees you will go past the old mines and pick up the longer route with stunning views and foot path leading right from the Heritage trail ( this has stunning views across the manifold river) .
